Partner, attorney

About Merete

For many years, I have provided advice on all aspects of VAT and taxes, primarily registration tax.

I specialize in advising both Danish and foreign companies on international matters, including cross-border sales of goods and services to and from Denmark. In this connection, I work with companies on establishing and identifying VAT risks, reorganizing the customer’s supply chain, and, not least, providing internal training to employees with a view to minimizing VAT risks.

In addition, I am deeply involved in the transport industry. This includes companies in the leasing and aviation industries, where I assist clients in obtaining approvals and permits, drafting contracts, including leasing contracts, management and cooperation agreements, as well as import/export and other advisory services. I have also specialized in real estate transactions, including the transfer of real estate groups, and I have extensive experience with electronic services and financial services.

It is crucial to me that my advice is based on a commercial understanding of my client and the market in which they operate, in order to ensure that the legal solutions create value for my client.

I have extensive experience in conducting ordinary civil cases and tax cases in court. I have conducted a number of cases before the European Court of Justice, and I assist my clients in connection with tax cases before the Danish Tax Agency, the Danish Tax Appeals Agency, and the National Tax Tribunal. Finally, I assist my clients in obtaining binding answers on matters such as VAT.

I have a master’s degree in VAT and taxes and have taught VAT law at both Aarhus University and CBS, and I have written a number of books and articles on VAT.

Finally, I am involved in board work and have served as chairman of the board of the KØN museum for many years. I am also active in a number of business associations and am a member of the Aarhus Business and Culture Forum.

I am a member of the Danish Bar and Law Society and the Danish Tax Lawyers Association.
